Illegal oil refining sites: Tompolo urges vigilance against sabotage

Former Niger Delta militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo, has voiced his concerns over the state of Nigeria’s economy, urging citizens to remain vigilant against sabotage targeting the oil and gas sector.

Speaking at Oporoza, headquarters of the Gbaramatu kingdom in Delta State, Tompolo emphasised the imperative to increase crude oil production.

He remarked, “Our economy is in dire need of survival, so we cannot fold our hands and allow some people to sabotage the nation’s economy because of greed.”

Tompolo’s remarks come as the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) announced the discovery and destruction of four illegal crude oil refining sites in Rivers State.

According to Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information for NAF, the operation, conducted on March 1, targeted active illegal refining activities in Krakama and Temakiri. G

Gabkwet reaffirmed the military’s commitment to combating crude oil theft and oil pipeline vandalism.

He stated, “We will not rest until we bring to justice those involved in these illegal activities.”
